Press Release

Russo Lee Gallery is pleased to open 2022 with A Closer Look by Sherrie Wolf. As in previous exhibitions, this solo show is comprised of paintings that combine still life and art history, often in challenging and complex compositions. Relying on reflection, light, depth, and shadow, Wolf’s works are charged with sumptuous color and restless energy, presenting a world that is better than real, beyond photorealism. Along with major large-scale works, there is a series of portraits from art history, ranging from Velazquez to Sargent, paired with singular floral arrangements. A Closer Look coincides with a retrospective of the artist’s work on exhibition at the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation through March 2022. An accompanying major publication will also be available.
